Parking banned on central Rīga street

New traffic restrictions have come into force on Miera Street in Rīga since Friday, December 8 – parking of vehicles is prohibited on both sides of the street from Brīvības Street to Tallinas Street.

Traffic has been repeatedly paralyzed since early winter due to misplaced cars, the biggest issue posed by trams that couldn't get past them. Riga City Council (RD) said complaints were received about the changes from residents of Miera Street, however, the priority is to ensure traffic.

Riga Municipal Police (RPP) said that in the past two weeks, 12 cases have been identified in the city where cars have been parked near or on tram tracks and traffic has been paralyzed for up to an hour. Most of those cases were on Miera Street.

That's why parking is banned on Miera Street in the section from Brīvības to Tallinas Street from Friday.

These traffic changes will be in place until spring. Local government police also say they will patrol the area to avoid incidents of disrupted traffic as much as possible.
