The number of passengers handled in September, as compared to September last year, increased by 9 % and reached 664 thousand travellers.
518 thousand passengers used direct flights from and to Riga Airport in September, which is the same result as during the pre-pandemic period, while the annual number of direct passengers increased by 1 % as compared to 2019. The number of transit passengers compared to last year increased by 11 % and was slightly more than 146 thousand passengers.
Almost two-thirds of the passengers, or 406 thousand travellers, were carried by the national airline airBaltic in September, followed by the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair with a fifth of the passengers served at Riga Airport.
The company's forecasts show that by the end of the year, the total number of passengers served at Riga Airport will exceed 7 million – in a country with a population of fewer than 2 million.
