Freight traffic to be restricted through Torņakalns, Rīga

Rīga, Torņakalns neighborhood, will make significant changes to the traffic organization, prohibiting transit traffic of freight transport, said the Rīga City Council's Outdoor and Mobility Department.

Starting Thursday, March 21, the flow of freight transit traffic through the neighborhood will be banned. The necessary road sign installation is scheduled to begin on Thursday and be completed within about a week.

For the first week Riga municipal Police will warn violators but will then launch administrative infringement proceedings with the imposition of penalties.

The changes introduced will further prohibit the movement of freight transport:

  • On Vienības Gatve from Kārļa Ulmaņā Gatve to Jelgavas Street;
  • On the stretch of Jelgavas Street from the Vienibas Gatve to Akmeņu Street;
  • On the stretch of Akmeņu Street from Valguma Street to Jelgavas Street.

Also from Thursday, March 21, the changes will be made on the following stretches, restricting the movement of freight transport during peak hours (7 to 10 in the morning and 16 to 19 in the evening):

  • in both directions on the Mūkusalas Street section from the Salu Bridge to Akmeņu Street;
  • Valguma Street;
  • Raņķa Dam;
  • on the stretch of the Daugavgrīvas Highway to Finiera Street.
