Car rentals will be limited at Midsummer in Latvia

Car-sharing providers will restrict the availability of cars on Midsummer Night, according to Bolt Drive and CityBee.

The car-sharing service provider Bolt Drive said  that it plans to restrict access to some Bolt Drive cars on June 23 and June 24 between 23:00 and 07:00. Cars in the vicinity of public festivities will not be available for hire during this period.

CityBee customers will not be able to reserve cars and start new journeys on the night of June 23 from 23:00 to June 24 at 08:00.

However, from June 24 at 08:00, cars will be available as usual. Active journeys, which can be continued, resumed or interrupted during the restrictions, will not be affected by these service restrictions.

CityBee pointed out that, despite the efforts of public authorities to control driving during the festive period, the figures from the Road Safety Directorate (CSDD) have been relatively stable in recent years. The number of road accidents in June in which at least one driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol has fluctuated around 60 over the last 14 years, while in 2022 there were 98 such accidents, compared with 90 in 2023.
