Pothole repairs ongoing on Rīga streets

As of January 25, 19 crews are repairing hazardous potholes in the streets of Riga, which formed under puddles after thawing, Riga municipality informed. The city also has 10 water pumping units working, pumping out puddles that have formed if necessary.

The most critical situation at the moment is in Biķernieku Street, Jaunciems Road, Mīlgrāvja Street, and Viestura prospekts, the municipality said.

As noted by the municipality, with cold asphalt laying technology, the repair of hazardous pits for traffic is carried out regardless of weather conditions, including during winter.

In spring, when the average overnight temperature will be above +5 degrees, the city will begin larger pavement repairs with the usual technologies which ensure longer life span and allows repairs not only to holes dangerous to traffic but also to prevent smaller-size defects.

The municipality reminded drivers that dangerous potholes are often hidden under puddles, so drivers are encouraged to choose the appropriate speed of driving and, if possible, drive round the puddles. Residents have been asked to report potholes and large puddles to the traffic control center by calling the daily toll-free phone 80003600 or writing to email [email protected].
