Song Festival organizers encourage Rīgans to work remotely

The action committee of the XXVII Nationwide Latvian Song and XVII Dance Celebration has accepted two recommendations during the pre-festival meeting on June 27 – to invite Latvian municipalities to fly the national flag from July 2 to 9, as well as to encourage workplaces in Rīga to organize work remotely.

“In view of the importance of the festival, as well as in order to show proper honor for the traditions of Song and Dance Festival, [..] the organizers of the festival invite every resident and institution of Latvia to hang the flag of the State of Latvia at buildings during the festival week,” the statement says.

A call to hang the national flag during festival week was first made in 2013.

It is also noted that as of July 2, when the festive events in Rīga will take place, more than 800 buses will be traveling in the streets of Rīga until July 9. Congestion is expected, so the organizers of the festival draw attention to the fact that people will have to spend longer than usual on the way to and from work. The action committee therefore calls for remote work where possible.
