Latvian traffic authority to raise service prices

The Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) plans to increase prices for a number of services, including roadworthiness tests, vehicle registration and driving tests, Latvian Television reports October 28.

The main changes are expected in the area of technical inspections (maintenance checks). This is due to a number of new requirements for carrying out inspections. Maintenance checks are outsourced at 33 locations across Latvia and service providers have offered higher prices than the current ones in the 2023 public procurement.

It is expected that there will be new equipment and four new maintenance check stations will be built - two in Rīga, one in Smiltene, and one in Līvāni.

The CSDD therefore plans to raise the price of a basic roadworthiness check for passenger cars (M1 category) by 8% - from €31.59 to €34.10.

For buses with a GVW of more than 5 tonnes (category M3), the price would increase by 36% - from €52.38 to €71.18. For trucks with a GVW greater than 12 tonnes (category N3), the price would increase by 40%, from €51.58 to €72.18. The price for category L, or motorcycles, would also increase slightly, from €17.91 to €18.22.

From 2025, vehicles will no longer need roadworthiness stickers.

The cost of the CSDD driving tests has also been reviewed. The price of taking the driving test is to be increased by €5.97, from €28.85 to €35.82.

Demand for exclusive national registration numbers remains high. The price increase planned for this service is 138%, from €413.22 to €983.47.

The draft price changes for CSDD services will be submitted and published on the Draft Legislation (TAP) public portal for public consultation.
