Some trains will have 'Covid-safe' cars from next week in Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years ago

As of September 15, special cars are planned on individual train routes where only people with a valid Covid-19 certificate of vaccination, recovery or negative test will be allowed to board, Passenger Rail (PV) said September 10.

In these cars, passengers and ticket controllers will not have to use the mouth and nose covers, nor will they have to comply with the limit on the number of passengers.

The routes to and from Rīga and Daugavpils, Krāslava and Rēzekne will implement this experiment between September 15 and the end of the month.

Special wagons will be available on the following routes and voyages:

  • every day on the Rīga train (16:31) – Krāslava (19:48) and the Krāslava train (5:48) – Rīga (9:00);
  • on weekends from Rīga (11:31) – Rēzekne II (14:15) and Rēzekne II (15:17) – Rīga (18:00).

As of September 13, the train passengers will be able to purchase a numbered seating ticket for the ride in the special car at all ticket offices on the train. Passengers will be required to present the Covid certificate, an identification document and a train ticket before boarding the train.

On the basis of the results of the first month and the responsiveness of passengers, the company will decide on the provision of this service in the future.
