A bus landed in a ditch on Tuesday, February 7, morning in the Dobele municipality, and rescue work was needed for the release of two people, the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) said. The Emergency Medical Service (NMPD) reported that 13 people were injured in the accident.

Around 9:30 in the morning the VUGD was informed that a road accident had occurred on the A9 motorway, Jaunbērze parish. Rescuers found that the bus was on its side in a ditch and that all people, except two, had managed to get out.

Firefighters stabilized the bus, disconnected the bus's battery and collected spilled liquid with the help of an absorbent. Two people were released from the bus and taken to medics.

VUGD spokeswoman Victoria Gribuste said the number of people on the bus is still being clarified because some of the people had already left by themselves with different vehicles. The NMPD reported that 13 people were injured in the accident, of which 12 were taken to hospitals with mild to moderate injuries, and another 12 refused assistance.

While the oil spill is being cleared, drivers are encouraged to instead take roads A10, P101, and P98.
