Re:Baltica reports on online aggression

The Baltic Center for Investigative Journalism, Re:Baltica, has published a new report on the subject of online hate and harassment in all three Baltic states.

Titled “You will collect your teeth with broken fingers”. Why haters are getting away with online abuse", the report is a collaborative effort from journalists in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and catalogs numerous cases of unpleasant people indulging in online abuse and threats, particularly against politicians and journalists, but also against other prominent figures.

In Latvia's case that includes the popular singer Ralfs Eilands - a man most people would find hard to hate - and medics who have dared to explain mainstream medical thinking during the Covid crisis to those adopting more fringe beliefs.

The report also draws attention to a generally sluggish police response to online threats in all three Baltic states and is available to read online.
