Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa meets Donald Tusk in Poland

Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa is in Poland February 29 with an agenda that includes a meeting with her Polish counterpart, Donald Tusk.

During the visit cooperation was discussed between the two countries in the fields of security and defense, support for Ukraine, economic relations, as well as energy and transport connectivity issues. Also during the visit, the Prime Minister will met with representatives of Polish commercial banks.

After the meeting of the two premiers, a joint press conference took place, which can be watched below (in Polish). Notably, Siliņa's outfit seemed carefully chosen to coincide with the colors of the Polish flag.

 
"Poland is our close strategic partner. We are like-minded, with common values ​​and interests. We see great potential for greater cooperation in areas such as financial services, energy and transport - our common goal is to connect the capitals of Latvia and Poland with Rail Baltica's tracks. 
 
"We will both continue to be among the loudest voices calling for additional military support for Ukraine to win the war against the invader. We also discussed Latvia's experience in banning the import of agricultural products from Russia and Belarus into our country - we are happy about the Polish Prime Minister's expressed desire to explore Latvia's solution, evaluating its potential implementation in Poland as well," said Siliņa.

 

The Prime Minister had separate meetings with representatives of the Polish commercial bank "Bank Pekao" and the Polish commercial bank "PKO Bank Polski". According to a Latvian government press release, this was to discuss "potential opportunities for new market players in Latvia", among other things, but there were no annoucements from the Polish banks about entering the Latvian market

During her visit, Siliņa also laid flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw and met with the employees of the Latvian Embassy in Poland.
