The training session is organised by the Latvian Transatlantic Organisation (LATO) in association with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with support from the German Embassy in Latvia. The course is implemented under the “Women, Peace and Security” program.
Training will be provided by an expert in international diplomacy, Jeremy Dommnich, from the Clingendael Academy. The two-day program aims to motivate participants to become more effective negotiators, reflect on their strengths and weaknesses in conflict resolution, better understand their preferred negotiation style and learn how to stay in control during complex negotiations.
Dommnich will outline a seven-phase cycle method designed by the Clingendael Academy. The participants will have the opportunity to practice through various exercises and simulation games.
The Clingendael Academy, located in The Hague, the Netherlands, is one of the largest independent diplomatic training centres around the world specialising in negotiation and mediation skills training.
The “Women, Peace and Security” programme is implemented by LATO in association with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the adoption of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, which marked the beginning of a new process in the promotion of international peace and security through placing a special focus on the prevention of gender based violence and laying emphasis on women’s representation and involvement in the conflict resolution and peacebuilding processes. Latvia has developed, and is putting into practice its National Plan on Women, Peace and Security.
