"In the case of Elksniņš, an in-depth examination was carried out of the 2021 and 2022 declarations. An administrative violation process was initiated and also terminated. We did not find any violations," Praula said.
Meanwhile, the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) is currently evaluating the case in depth, KNAB representative Paula Vilsone-Milaševiča confirmed to Latvian Radio.
As previously reported, the end of last year, the Baltic investigative journalism center Re:Baltica revealed that the mayor of Daugavpils, Elksniņš, has a liking for designer clothes, high-end watches and other trappings of luxury that seemed hard to reconcile with his modest salary and apparent lack of savings as mayor of the country's second-largest city.
Declarations allow the public to see what officials' income is, how much debt they have, and whether they have any savings.
