Rēzekne City Council resumes work

Take note – story published 1 year ago

In Rēzekne 12 of the 13 deputies of the local government met for the Council meeting on Wednesday, November 29, after three boycotted meetings.

As a result, there was the necessary quorum and the council was able to consider 28 issues, including teachers' salaries, that had been brewing for over a month.

Following the dismissal of Mayor Aleksandrs Bartaševics, three meetings had not taken place in the Council, because they had been deliberately sabotaged by deputies of the ruling party “Together for Latvia” in Rēzekne. Several justified their absence with sick leaves despite being seen in churches, sports competitions, and other public events. The Health Inspectorate will therefore assess the validity of four councillors' sick leave.

Councillors resumed work after the Saeima started to amend the laws and regulations stipulating that absentees may be dismissed and decisions could also be taken with the participation of minority deputies in the meeting.

Only deputy Vladimirs Bogdanovs, who is on sick leave, did not attend the meeting on Wednesday.
