During a conference on human trafficking at the Saeima September 23 and discussing the punishment policy in Latvia, the minister said that Latvia needs to improve the system of punishments, courts and investigation, therefore he proposed to merge the Justice Ministry with the Interior Ministry.
"Then we can solve all problems together," the minister said.
In his presentation, Ģirģens did not mention whether he has presented this proposal to the coalition partners – crucially the New Conservative Party which currently holds the Justice Minister portfolio – and Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (New Unity).
