Ilze Pētersone-Godmane, State Secretary at the Interior Ministry, has been refused access to state secrets, reported Latvian Television on April 9.

A government source told LTV that her clearance for accessing classified materials has not been extended.

This means that it's likely Pētersone-Godmane will not be able to work as State Secretary anymore. However she can challenge the decision.

The official was unable to comment as she's on vacation abroad has no information about the decision.

On Monday the Constitution Protection Bureau told Latvian Radio that an end decision over granting Pētersone-Godmane a security clearance has not been made. However it could happen once the official returns from vacation.

Pētersone-Godmane has been serving as State Secretary at the Interior Ministry since 2009.
