Kalniete was nominated for the post by MEPs from the Baltic and Nordic countries. She emphasized that she will continue to work on the EPP's presidium with much responsibility.
''Europe continues to face major challenges in preserving its values, its unity and its security. It is in the interests of Latvia to have a strong and closely integrated Europe, and I consider it my duty to uphold its principles by assuming the position of vice president of the political group,'' she said.
Congratulations to our new EPP Group Vice-Chairs @Kalniete and @JanOlbrycht who replace @MaireadMcGMEP and @EwaKopacz in the Presidency of our Group. #EPlenary pic.twitter.com/s0ZMqoQB9x
