In an interview on LNT news channel, Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis stated that no more than 50-60 refugees can be accepted as of now.

Only 50 to 60 people can be accepted with the current resources, said Kozlovskis. More refugees could be received if additional funds were provided.

The minister stressed that no country is forced to take in refugees and has freedom to decide how many refugees to accept. He said that it's important not only to accept the refugees but to integrate them in the society.

There is little support in Latvia for accepting African refugees flooding Europe in the recent years. As reported, the Latvian lawmaker's stance is to reject the refugee quotas proposed by the EC. The proposed number of refugees that Latvia ought to accept was 737.
