The tension between the health sector and the Minister for Health is critical, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš said October 27 after meeting the Latvian Medical Association (LĀB), which has requested the resignation of Health Minister Daniels Pavļuts.

The Prime Minister promised to discuss possible solutions with the Minister for Health and his coalition partners.

In a remote conversation, the chairs of LĀB presented the Prime Minister with their take on the situation in the healthcare sector, the demands for the resignation of Pavļuts, and the possibilities for cooperation between the government and the Association to overcome the health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Following the meeting, Kariņš said in a statement that he could hear and understand the frustration of doctors about the lack of cooperation and dialogue in the health sector. He said that the tension between the sector and the Minister for Health is critical and, at a time when acute situations need to be addressed in order to provide health services to the population, the Minister for Health should be able to cooperate with the sector.

The LĀB and other medical organizations ask for the resignation of Health Minister Daniels Pavļuts citing the long-term errors of the Ministry of Health (VM) in crisis management.
