Latvia's President Rinkēvičs to make Israel trip

State President Edgars Rinkēvičs will visit Israel November 19-20, according to a diary announcement from the presidential chancellery.

While in Israel, President Rinkēvičs will meet with the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog , to discuss the current emergency situation in Israel and the region after the Hamas terrorist attacks of October 7.

"The purpose of the visit is to express solidarity with the people of Israel, ad the fight against the terrorist organization Hamas, as well as to prevent a wider escalation of the security and humanitarian situation in the region," said a statement from the chancellery.

During the visit, the President plans to visit the West Bank as well, where he is scheduled to meet with the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas "to discuss with the legal representation of Palestinians ways to prevent the further spread of violence and humanitarian disaster in the region, as well as to provide support to Palestinians in covering their humanitarian needs."

The President will also meet with representatives of the Latvian diaspora in Israel.
