International congratulations for President-elect Rinkēvičs

Edgars Rinkēvičs' successful bid to become Latvia's President saw congratulations arriving from around the world May 31.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was among the first to offer his congratulations, while also thanking outgoing President Egils Levits for his contribution to the defense of Ukraine.

Indeed Levits was also among the first to offer congratulations, saying "I am sure that Latvia will be in safe hands in the next four years. Good luck!"

Estonia's President Alar Karis was also quick off the mark and extended an invitation to head north:

One of Latvia's senior figures within NATO added her thoughts, too.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola later added to the congratulations.

Latvia's European Commissioner, former Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis, took time out from trade talks between the EU and U.S. to tweet his greetings, describing his party colleague as a "statesman" who has honorably served Latvia internationally.
