President Levits: "Evil must be resisted. Evil must be punished."

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Latvian State President Egils Levits on February 24 released a video message marking one year since Russia invaded Ukraine. A translation is reproduced below.

Dear citizens of Latvia!

The Ukrainian people have been fighting against the Russian occupiers for a year – fighting for their country and their people. This fight is just and noble. It inspires the whole world, but the cost is high.

The war takes the lives of Ukrainians, destroys homes and dreams of the future. We Latvians know what Russian occupation means. That is why Latvia, together with other western countries, has been on the side of Ukraine since the first day of the war.

Evil must be resisted. Evil must be punished.

I am proud of our nation for the great support it has given to Ukraine, its army and Ukrainian refugees. Thanks to each and every one of you together!

In crucial moments, we in Latvia are able to understand each other with half a word and agree on the most important things.

If the Ukrainians are in formation, we will not tire. This is our will. The flags of free Ukraine will continue to fly in Latvia until its victory.

Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!

President Levits also released a version in Ukrainian (below).
