President Levits to make state visit to Israel

November 28-29 will see Latvian President Egils Levits embarking on a state visit to Israel.

During his state visit, Levits will meet with the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, representatives of the Israeli parliament or Knesset, he will open a Latvian-Israeli Business Forum and unveil a mosaic of Our Lady of Aglona at the Annunciation Basilica in Nazareth.

In a special memorial ceremony, the President – who is himself of partly Jewish heritage – will lay a wreath at the Mount Herzl National Cemetery and at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Museum and Research Center.

The state president will also meet with representatives of the Latvian cultural society and plant a tree in Israel's national park, Nation Forest .

He will be accompanied by his wife, Andra Levite, the Minister of Economy, the Mayor of Rīga and a delegation of businesspeople.

Israel's ambassador to Latvia has departed ahead of the visit to make sure everything is ready.
