Women still occupy less than a third of Saeima seats

In July 2022, women held 32.7% of all seats in national parliaments across the EU, according to a Eurostat release to mark International Women's Day on March 8.

Latvia currently fares slightly worse than that with 29% (29 out of 100) of deputies being women. The highest proportion of women in Saeima came with a total of 31 in 2018.

Meanwhile, the world average was 26.4%. Only three countries had a majority of women in their parliaments: Rwanda (61.3%), Cuba (53.4%) and Nicaragua (51.7%). An equal number of men and women (50.0%) had parliamentary seats in Mexico and the United Arab Emirates.

The parliaments of Yemen, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea have no female representation at all.
