The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) has detained several individuals for repeatedly identifying false medical diagnoses in exchange for benefits, LETA reported August 4.

The KNAB has information that a medical worker may have repeatedly detected false diagnoses for patients in exchange for illegal benefits.

On June 13, the KNAB initiated criminal proceedings on the acceptance of illegal benefits if it was done by a State or local government employee who is not a public official.

On August 2, the KNAB carried out criminal proceedings at several locations and detained five persons.

The Health Inspectorate has also been informed about KNAB's findings. The agency LETA confirmed that it had received documentation from the KNAB for assessment on Friday afternoon.

The Riga City Court applied arrest as a security measure to one of the detainees.

No more details were provided at the Bureau.
