Criminal case started in music academy scandal

State police have launched criminal proceedings in connection with alleged sexual harassment at Jāzeps Vītols' Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) and are calling for victims and witnesses to come forward, the police statement of March 14 said.

State police have opened criminal proceedings for a criminal offense against a person's virtue and sexual inviolability.

At this point, in the interest of the investigation, the police refrain from making wider comments.

The police call for all victims and witnesses to report by writing to the email address: “[email protected]” or call 67075517 or 67075211. Police guarantee anonymity to anyone who will be able to provide useful information in the investigation.

Latvian Television has also urged victims of sexual harassment at school, university, sports practice or similar establishments to speak up.

"We will keep you anonymous, but we will not keep quiet about people who have some power over a pupil or student using it in this way. Email [email protected], WhatsApp 20553333. Silence encourages bullies!", says LTV.
