Police chase 16-year-old driver through Rīga at high speed

At the end of last week, police engaged in a high-speed chase through central Rīga, which ended in 11 administrative cases, police said October 15.

The police spotted an unbelted driver on October 13 at around 01:00 at night on Satekles Street in Riga. To make sure, the officers ordered the vehicle to stop by turning on its lights and sounds, but the BMW quickly started speeding up and started fleeing down Lāčplēša Street towards the Salu Bridge.

During the escape, the driver exceeded the speed limit several times - in a place where the speed limit is 70 km/h, the BMW driver was traveling at 164 km/h. The driver also disregarded the traffic light's prohibition signal several times.

During the pursuit, the BMW driver was repeatedly asked to stop, but he continued to ignore the police officer's request, which led to the deployment of additional State Police forces.

The fleeing driver was stopped by law enforcement officers on Zolitūdes Street. After stopping the vehicle, the officers found that it was being driven by a 16-year-old youth who did not have a driving license.

The youth explained that he had taken the car from his parents while they were asleep to take an acquaintance home.

The State Police initiated a total of 11 administrative offenses for the youth's reckless behavior - one for driving without a license, one for disobeying police requests to stop the vehicle (fleeing), two for aggressive driving, three for speeding, and four for disobeying a traffic light's prohibition signal.
