The victim's lawyer, Anna Nore, now legally represents the youngest child.
“Rusiņš has still not been found, and it's that great pain and feeling of insecurity because that man is walking around somewhere. [I'm] inclined to think so, knowing his self-confidence. The investigation is moving forward, solidifying the evidence. I'm in the process as the legal aid for the little boy,” the lawyer said.
Nore has achieved a ban on interrogating the child who witnessed his father killing his mother.
The woman's mom who also saw the killing now has severe mental health issues.
“This tragedy has destroyed her. She is a client of a social-care institution. And the main thing is that she was their [the children's] grandmother. Took care of them. He went to the kindergarten. Now Grandma has been taken away, because she lost her mind after all that happened," the lawyer said.
Police are on patrol in the vicinity of the kindergarten and school where both children are.
The Chief of the Jēkabpils police station has lost his position. The checks on all the responsible bodies involved are continuing, as Rusiņš pursued his victim for a long time, and she asked for protection again and again.
“I pity that the court thought it had done everything,” the lawyer said.
But the lawyer finally felt that the murder opened the eyes of law enforcement and general society the threat should be taken seriously.
“Going to court cases now, I see the attitude has changed. Has changed radically. The police are very responsible. There are other cases of violence, the attitude is different,” Nore said.
Knowing Rusiņš' psychological portrait, the lawyer concedes that he will continue to do harm.
“He waits. I very much hope he can be found. I believe he's a beast. Just a beast,” she said.
Once all the checks and service investigations are over, the family could turn to court since the country did not protect the mother of both children, although she was desperately begging for it.
“Because the state failed to meet its obligations. But those kids have to grow up!” the lawyer said.
Though Rusiņš has vanished, the Chief of the State Police has promised that the police will find him. For the time being, there is no success.
