Rīga police flush out beach toilet peeping tom

Rīga Municipal Police said June 20 they had apprehended a man who was engaged in spying on women at a beach-side public toilet.

On the afternoon of June 18, while monitoring the safety of Vecāki beach and its surroundings, the police officers of the Water Safety Department of the Riga Municipal Police – who also act as lifeguards – noticed a man suspiciously loitering near the bio-toilets on video surveillance cameras which captured the whole thing.

Law enforcement officers, observing the man's behavior, ran him to ground and discovered that some cubicles had holes cut through them, through which the offender apparently entertained himself by watching women defecate.

For disturbing public order by violating generally accepted norms of behavior, an administrative violation process was initiated against the violator and a fine of 300 euros imposed. The State Police have also been informed about the incident and may take further action.
