Burned-out car likely linked to killing of soccer agent

Take note – story published 3 years ago

On the morning of Thursday, April 15, a burned-out car was found in the wooded Mežaparks district of Rīga, which is most likely related to the murder of soccer agent Romāns Bezzubovs in Purvciems the previous morning.

This was confirmed at a press conference on Thursday by the Chief of the State Police Armands Ruks.

The police chief admitted that this vehicle is most likely related to the crime committed on the morning of Wednesday, April 14. At the same time, Ruks noted that a scene inspection and investigation is currently underway.

The discovery of the car echoes a similar find of a burned-out vehicle following the still-unsolved murder of lawyer Mārtiņš Bunkus in 2018. There is as yet no evidence linking the two cases, though both victims were gunned down in broad daylight on a weekday morning and both appear to have been carried out by professional killers.

As previously reported by LSM, the deceased is a FIFA-registered and well-known football agent.

Police say all possible avenues of investigation are being considered, including a contract killing, and have not ruled out that the crime could also be related to the victim's occupation and professional activity.

Anyone with information that may relate to the crime is urged to contact the State Police via email: [email protected] or via telephone on 67075257 or 110. State Police say anonymity will be guaranteed.
