CERT: Cyber attacks on Latvia will continue

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Since last spring, when Russia launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine, the level of threat to Latvia's cyber environment has been high, and there is currently no hope that this activity will decrease, Baiba Kaškina, head of information technology security incident prevention institution Cert.lv, told Latvian Television on October 2.

She said the threat level remained high, and the public as well as authorities should be vigilant and looking out for attempts by fraudsters to trick data.

Attacks continue on state institutions as well. Particularly high levels of attacks were last year; such activity dropped slightly this year. But in September, the level of attacks was higher again. A lot of attacks are organized by pro-Russian hackers.

Unfortunately, there is be no hope of such activities changing anytime soon, Kaškina noted.

She said that Poland and the Baltic countries suffer the most from attacks by pro-Russian hackers, but in recent months all NATO countries have been exposed to them.
