Latvian navy runs drills for search and rescue operations

May 10 sees the start of international exercise "Dynamic Mercy 2023" organized by the NATO Naval Command in the Baltic Sea – in the Latvian area of ​​responsibility – to improve cooperation in search and rescue operations.

The Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center of the Coast Guard Service of the Navy and the ships of the Patrol Vessel Squadron – P-09 "Rēzekne" and KA-14 "Astra" are taking part in the training.

"The purpose of the exercise is to test the coordination of aircraft in large-scale maritime accidents and the ability to determine the location of an accident, as well as to train the international cooperation of coordination centers and the cooperation of rescue teams at the scene of the incident," says information from the Latvian National Armed Forces.

The entire Baltic Sea is divided into three regions - North, Middle and South, and Latvia, according to its geographical location, is included in the Middle region, together with Sweden and Lithuania. This year, the training in the Central region is being led by Latvia.
