Take note – story published 2 years ago

The European Union (EU) will provide additional assistance to Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland in the fight against illegal immigration from Belarus,  interior ministers of the member states decided August 18.

Ministers decided that additional experts from the Frontex team, as well as the necessary technical equipment, would be sent to Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland.

The capacity of accommodating asylum seekers will be increased and additional financial assistance will be requested from the European Commission to address the crisis.

Ministers agreed on the need to cooperate more actively with the home countries and transit countries of illegal immigrants in order to ensure their return. Belarus's attempts to use people as instruments to achieve political objectives were condemned.
