Latvia plans to extend the state of emergency on the border with Belarus for the third time, deputy Juris Pūce said after the coalition meeting on Monday, May 9.

Pūce said the coalition had agreed on this, and the extension will be directed to the government for approval.

The Latvian government decided to announce the state of emergency on the border with Belarus on August 10, 2021, until November 10, 2021 due to the influx of refugees trying to cross the border.

The state of emergency has been extended twice before: until February 10, 2022, and May 10, 2022. The state of emergency is in force in the municipalities of Ludza, Krāslava, Augšdaugava, and Daugavpils.
