Take note – story published 3 years ago

The Rīga-based NATO Strategic Communications Center of Excellence (STRATCOMCOE) offers up another online discussion May 20, with Asia the center of attention this time.

Titled "Disinformation in Asia", the discussion will feature Prof. Jonathan Corpus Ong (Associate Professor of Digital Media, University of Massachusetts-Amherst), Dr. Gulizar Haciyakupoglu (Research Fellow, Centre of Excellence for National Security, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies), Dr. Jacob Wallis (Senior Analyst, Australian Strategy Policy Institute) and Ms. Monika Hanley (Fulbright Scholar, NATO StratCom COE).

"Asia is currently undergoing a digital transformation, with smartphone usage, internet connectivity and online news consumption developing rapidly. While new digital technologies provide ample opportunities for development, the region has also seen significant decline in media freedom in many countries... What are the dynamics of the Asian information environment? How are these countries approaching the challenge of disinformation? What are the larger effects of disinformation ecosystem on an international level?" asks pre-publicity material from the organizers.

This event will be livestreamed on 20 MAY 16:00 EEST (GMT+3) on Facebook and YouTube, and we'll also carry it on this page here at LSM English.
