The trade union is no longer prepared for negotiations with politicians, and the union will by April 24 determine the number of participants in the rally and the strike.
The Education and Science Employees' Union points out that the government has not fulfilled its promises to teachers and failed to observe the relevant laws and regulations. Hence the decision to organize a strike and a protest.
The rally will take place regardless of whether the strike demands are met or not. The strike may be called off if politicians again offer some solutions at the last moment.
Vanaga emphasized that the upcoming rally and strike were supported by a number of other non-governmental organizations.
As reported, LIZDA decided on February 15 to give the government time until March 15 to meet their pay demands.
Vanaga explained earlier that the biggest problem at the moment is that the ministry offers a salary increase and load balancing schedule, but does not specify the exact amounts and financial sources for these schedules. Vanaga also emphasizes that she cannot agree with the statement of the Ministry of Education and Science (IZM) about the additional EUR 61 million allocated to the sector, as this amount is supposed to be intended for balancing workloads and paying unpaid obligations. This money has nothing to do with the schedule.
LIZDA said that even though seemingly in September an agreement was reached with the ministry on the strike demands, analyzing the government budget documents, direct financing for these demands has not been allocated.
LETA also reported teachers' wages will be increased, reaching an hourly rate of EUR 10.35 in 2025, according to the draft decision prepared by the Education and Science Ministry.
The ministry has prepared a draft decision on the timetable for increase of teachers' wages.
