State Environmental Service gets new head

Andris Ķēniņš, Deputy State Secretary for Environmental Protection of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (VARAM), has been confirmed as Head of the State Environmental Service (VVD), the government decided on Tuesday, April 2.

The competition for the post of Director General of the VVD was announced in December last year and concluded on February 23 this year.

Ķēniņš has until now been the deputy State Secretary for Environmental Protection of VARAM and also the acting Director General of VVD, as well as a Member of the board of directors of state company “Environmental Investment Fund”.

In his speech to the government, Ķēniņš said his biggest challenge would be tackling the administrative burden 

Prior to this, Ķēniņš has been in executive positions of several organizations.  He has obtained a professional master's degree in law from the University of Latvia.
