Rīgā pašvaldība centralizēti tīrīs vairāk ielu

More pavements to be snow-shoveled centrally in Rīga

Some property owners in Rīga will not have to start each morning with a shovel anymore. Last year, the municipality decided to move to centralized pavement cleaning within three years, and this winter, the second step of the transition is to be implemented.

Until now, owners had to clean snow from the adjacent sidewalk of a property they owned themselves. It caused chaos as not all could or would do it. Last year, Rīga municipality decided to switch to centralized pavement cleaning. The transitional period laid down shall be three years.

“Last year was the first year when Rīga municipality carried out centralized pavement cleaning in the historic center zone. This year, the area will be twice as large,” said Rīga City executive director Jānis Lange.

He said there was no specific area where the municipality would clean the streets. They will be cleaned throughout the historic center and on the streets deemed most important. “We estimate an estimated budget of €3.7 million and we estimate that this funding will be enough.”

In total, 51 technical units will clean the sidewalks.

Riga City Council also reminds users of electric scooters not to place them in the middle of pavements in order not to hinder mechanical cleaning.

You can find out which pavements will be cleaned centrally on the riga.lv website.
