The company's forest experts report that bending and breaking of similar magnitude were seen in forests more than 10 years ago.
The company said it was keeping track of the situation and preventing potentially dangerous cases, such as in Gauja forestry, where trees were curved and also broken along the side of Malpils Road, as well as in forests in the capital. “In these places, dangerously bent trees have been sawn off,” the company noted.
While in forests, residents are asked to be very careful: to protect themselves and their properties, as well as not park vehicles in areas where trees or their branches are bent.
Meanwhile, JSC “Latvian State Forests” (LVM) representative Tomass Kotovičs told Latvian Radio that bent branches are a very big problem in Vidzeme.
“Snow bending usually appears as a problem once every 15 or 20 years,” Kotovičs noted. “You have to look very carefully when you go into the woods – if you see that the trees are already bent, you should not go underneath.”
