According to the municipality, employees of Liepājas Water Ltd have been looking for technical solutions for possible rapid restoration of structures since the accident: “All types of wastewater flow to the damaged reservoir and wastewater treatment plants have been stopped. The collected wastewater was stored as far as possible in pipelines, pressure pipes, and pumping stations, and additional pumps were deployed."
At present, the situation with the inflow of wastewater into the sea has been resolved.
At the same time, prevention works continue, technical expert-examination of the collapsed wall and explaining the causes of the accident together with experts from Rīga Technical University.
Testing and tracking of water quality changes are also ensured.
In order to reduce the amount of water entering wastewater plants, the responsible services called on residents of Liepāja and Grobiņa to reduce water consumption in the coming days and not to wash clothes and dishes with chemicals in order to minimize the impact of pollution. At the same time, citizens have to take into account that water pressure will be reduced these days.
Swimming in the sea of the area is also not recommended.
