Young stork makes first flight

Take note – story published 1 year and 2 months ago

Last weekend, one of the three young birds left the white stork's nest, which is located on a power supply pole belonging to the AS "Sadales tīkls" company.

As "Sadales tīkls" announced, the stork left the nest on Saturday, July 29. Last year, the first juvenile left the nest on July 24.

In recent weeks, the young birds have been restless for a long time, actively exercising their wings, practicing jumps, rehearsing their calls and learning the skills of arranging their feathers, but they avoided leaving the nest. On Saturday afternoon, one of the three took that step. Shortly after, the baby bird returned to the nest, welcomed rapturously by the others for its act of derring-do.

It bodes well for the end of August or the beginning of September, when the white storks will start their migration to spend the winter in warmer lands.

Until then, you can watch live coverage of the nest via the webcam above.
