The changes initially envisaged the introduction of a ban from 2026, but the deadline was postponed for two years.
The current deadline is set to allow entrepreneurs to refocus their business so the state does not have to pay compensation.
The changes don't ban fur obtaining from hunting, or fur trading.
Several protests took place in the past, requesting the banning of fur farms in Latvia. Also on Thursday, September 22, a picket organized by the association “Animal Freedom” is taking place at the Saeima, expressing support for animal protection and a ban on fur farming in Latvia.
