Pool near toppled Soviet monument drained

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Water has been drained from the pool near the obelisk of the toppled Soviet Army soldiers monument, LETA reported Sunday, August 29.

It is not yet known whether the fish have already been fed to the animals at Rīga Zoo. In consultation with environmental specialists, it has been established that the fish should not be moved to another body of water, so it has been decided to feed them to the residents of the zoo.

According to the Fishery Law, the transfer of local fish species to natural water bodies needs coordination with the environment safety lab BIOR. The rules on angling, cray fishing, and underwater hunting also prohibit the movement of fish and crayfish from one body of water to another.

Toppling the obelisk into the pond hasn't killed the fish in it. The workers only found one carp that had been thrown ashore, and it was thrown it back into the pond.

Pumping the pond and collecting fish were scheduled to take place early this week.
