Rīga to create 20 urban meadows

This autumn, natural meadows will be created in 20 places in Rīga as part of the Latvian Fund for Nature (LDF) and Riga City Council project “City meadow”, LDF spokeswoman Liene Brizga-Kalniņa said June 17.

The LDF received 18 applications for setting up meadows and 20 sites were selected following a thorough assessment, a management plan was prepared and the creation of meadows would take place in the autumn.

On Wednesday, June 16, the Riga City Council adopted binding rules on mowing in these areas, which will be appropriate for the development of biodiversity.

Areas selected for the meadows are located in Iļģuciems, Imanta, Centrs, Čiekurkalns, Teika and other neighborhoods. You can view the selected areas on the interactive map:
