Flu, Covid incidence remains low in Latvia

The number of flu and Covid-19 patients continues to decline, according to monitoring data from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) on April 10. Last week, 77 cases of flu were detected, with the highest incidence recorded in the 5-14 age group.

Last week, a total of 651 patients approached general practitioners involved with acute symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection, 77 of whom had been diagnosed with “influenza” based on a typical clinical picture.

Cases have been recorded in Ventspils, Rīga, Rēzekne, Liepāja, Daugavpils, and Valmiera.

The highest incidence was recorded in the 5-14 age group last week.

The number of Covid-19 cases in the country is also continuing to decline. Last week, 20 cases were laboratory confirmed (a week earlier 19), with a total of 577 (previously 573) laboratory tests performed for the virus. 18 Covid-19 patients were in hospital (20 a week earlier, 17 two weeks earlier).

There are currently no patients in the hospital with severe Covid-19 disease progression, however, three deaths of Covid-19 patients were recorded last week (a week earlier - 1).
