Fewer flu vaccines bought this year in Latvia

This season, 6,370 fewer flu vaccines have been purchased for Latvia than last season, the Disease and Prevention Control Center (SPKC) told LETA October 16.

A total of 131,023 doses of different types of influenza vaccines were given to authorities last season, with a total unused balance of 13,349 doses, according to information released by the SPKC. The actual use of vaccines purchased last year was 117,674 doses.

A total of 124,720 doses of influenza vaccines have been contracted for this season, according to the National Health Service (NVD).

A total of three types of influenza vaccines have been procured: Eflueda Tetra, a high-dose vaccine for patients aged 60 and over; Fluenz Tetra for children aged two to 17 years who belong to certain health risk groups; Influvac Tetra is for the rest.

The NVD also notes that the contract will allow for the delivery of an additional 5,900 doses of influenza vaccine.
