Of 10,798 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 16.8% were positive. The 14-day cumulative morbidity rate per 100,000 population climbed steeply again from 735.3 Friday to 824.7 Saturday as the latest Omicron-fuelled infection wave spreads. The last time this indicator was above 800 was October 19, 2021.
Sadly, eight more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed. All of the victims were aged 50 years or over and two of them were fully vaccinated. The total death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 4,650.

Friday data from the National Health Service show 562 patients being treated in hospital (down from 574 on Thursday) with 57 patients admitted and 52 discharged during the last 24 hours. 76 patients are displaying serious symptoms.
In the other Baltic states, Estonia had 228 hospitalized patients, 1,648 new cases and 3 deaths confirmed during the last 24 hours while in Lithuania there were more than 3,300 new cases and 16 deaths confirmed during the last 24 hours.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme. All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
