The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic stands at 36,838 on December 28 after 508 new cases were confirmed during the previous 24 hours. The figure was almost the same as the 511 cases recorded on December 27.
The highest case count in a single day so far is 1,270, recorded on December 24.
Of 4,437 tests carried out, 11.5% were positive.

Unfortunately 19 deaths were also confirmed. Of those, one victim was aged aged 50-55, three were aged 60-70, three were aged 70-80, seven were aged 80-90 and five were aged 90-95.
In total 578 people have died in Latvia as a result of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
According to the National Health Service (NVD), 1,048 patients are currently being treated in Latvia's hospitals for coronavirus symptoms. This is the largest number so far. Of that total, 987 patients have moderate symptoms while 61 are showing serious symptoms.

Meanwhile in Lithuania 1,773 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded December 28 and in Estonia the figure was 416 cases.
