Take note – story published 3 years ago

Twenty-one new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Latvia on September 28, the total since the start of the pandemic rising to 1,697 as a result.

No new deaths were recorded Monday, with the fatality toll remaining on 36, but the total is just one fewer than the 22 cases added to the tally on Sunday.

The Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) said 1,398 tests had been conducted during the previous 24-hour period.

In total 312,230 tests have been carried out since February 29.

So far 1,304 patients have recovered from infection.

Eleven patients are in hospital, all of whom are described as having moderate symptoms of the disease.

SPKC said that thirteen persons' source of infection was known, four had contracted the disease abroad (Ukraine and India). Four cases are still being investigated.

On September 27 the 14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 of population was 9.9 in Latvia, 35.8 in Lithuania and 38.5 in Estonia, according to data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. Latvia's rate remains the lowest in the European Union and one of the lowest in the world, but has been on an upward trend during the past week.
