Covid-19 morbidity grew rapidly last week in Latvia

In Latvia, the number of newly confirmed cases of Covid-19 increased by 29.8% last week, according to the latest data of the Disease Control and Prevention Center (SPKC) published August 2.

Last week, an average of 7,468 Covid-19 tests per day were conducted and an average of 60 new cases a day were detected. A week earlier, 7,184 tests were conducted and 46 cases found a day.

In the past seven days, an average of four Covid-19 patients per day were hospitalized and an average of 44 people were treated daily in hospitals (last week – 53).

In the last two weeks there has been a 31.1% increase in morbidity among 20-29-year-olds, while a 22.4% increase has been observed among 10-19-year-olds, SPKC reported. Also in the age group between 30 and 49, there is an increase of 17.7% .

The factor of reproduction of Covid-19 infection (R) increased to 1.2, a week earlier it was 1.14, indicating that the distribution of Covid-19 in Latvia is increasing.

Meanwhile, the share of imported Covid-19 cases last week fell to 15.1% in Latvia (previously 27%), with a total of 63 cases last week (a week earlier – 87). Between weeks 25 and 30, the most cases came from Russia – 63 cases, Turkey – 45, UK – 36, Spain – 33, Netherlands – 15, France – 14, Georgia – 14, Finland – 14, Uzbekistan – 9, Bulgaria – 7, Germany – 7 and other countries.
